UPDATE (1/6/13)
Beckett Jude is doing ‘great’ (I feel that quotes are necessary being that he is still on Ecmo and his chest has not yet been closed)! Additionally, he’s been doing so well that they began weaning him off the machine earlier today (whereas they were going to be waiting to begin that process until Monday or Tuesday). We are so encouraged, yet understandably nervous, as we enter this next stage. I hope that I continue to bore you all with these non-dramatic updates of slow continual progress. This has been such an answer to prayer as his recovery has been such a testimony to the Lord’s grace and sovereignty to us as a family. I will continue to strive to keep posting updates as these next few days may be difficult….but we are certainly praying for a smooth 48 hours (and beyond). — with Leah ‘Whiteley’ Rupp at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.
Beckett had another good night…many more to come, or he’s grounded! — with Leah ‘Whiteley’ Rupp at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.
‘No News is Good News’
Well, today was a fairly uneventful day…that’s a good thing. We are hoping and praying for a very similar day again tomorrow. This then leads into our upcoming prayer and concern. As Monday (or Tuesday) commence, Beckett with be slowly weaned from the Ecmo machine. We have been warned in advance that this may be a very trying and challenging time as they test and study Beckett’s vitality and independence. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned or nervous…but he’s doing so well, and we are greatly optimistic and hopeful for his full recovery. As always, we are soooo crazy thankful for the prayers and support. You all are soo amazing! Go Beckett! — with Leah ‘Whiteley’ Rupp at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.
Thank you to my 9 Webber South family for sending fruit and a bear. How kind. Beckett has good friends in the D!!
Today is Beckett’s 1 week birthday! Happy birthday my precious precious son! Mommy loves you!
Encouraging UPDATE:
Beckett had another “good” day. He is still progressing. The doctors and nurses this morning (who seem to typically not be shy when difficult news needs to be given) only had positives things to say today. At one point I had to ask, “Do you have any bad news?!”. They laughed and said, “I understand what you are saying…but no, not really”. Later in the day, he did have a few seizures, but that is being closely monitored and treated.
Though there is not much to report in this update, I figured that you all deserve some sort of update with how intentional and diligent your prayers and concerns have been. We feel quite encouraged and so appreciative of all the support. But please…PLEASE keep praying for my son. He still needs it desperately, but we are believing he WILL and IS going to pull through this. He has a wonderful and bright future ahead of him…and I cannot wait for y’all to meet him someday! He’s a freakin’ stud! 😉 — with Leah ‘Whiteley’ Rupp at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.
Another UPDATE:
First off, I hate to enable the ‘roller-coaster’ of emotions, but I do have encouraging news. By no means are we out of the woods yet, but Beckett did have a ‘good’ day today. He does have a long road ahead of him, but there are many key components that are beginning to rebound. The next hurdle is the monitoring of the potential damage to his brain from last night. We will know more in the morning, and even more within the next 24-48 hours. As always, thank you for all your prayers and support, it has been extremely humbling and encouraging. January 2, 2013 Beckett Jude’s roughest day so far. How fitting is the reading for the day out of My Utmost For His Highest:
“He went out, not knowing where he was going” Hebrews 11:8
Have you ever “gone out” in this way? if so, there is no logical answer possible when anyone asks you what you are doing. One of the most difficult questions to answer in Christian work is, “What do you expect to do?” You don;t know what you are going to do. The only thing you know is that God knows what He is doing. Continually examine your attitude toward God to see if you are willing to “go out” in every area of your life, trusting God entirely. It is this attitude that keeps you in constant wonder, because you don’t know what God is going to do next. Each morning as you wake, there is new opportunity to “go out”, building you confidence in God. “…do not worry about your life…nor about the body…” (Luke 12:22) In other words, don;t worry about the things that concerned you before you did “go out:
Have you been asking God what he is going to do? He will never tell you. God does not tell you what He is going to do — He reveals to you who He is. DO YOU BELIEVE IN A MIRACLE-WORKING GOD, and will you “go out” in complete surrender to HIm until you are not surprised one iota by anything He does?
Believe God is always the God you know Him to be when you are nearest to Him. Then think how unnecessary and disrespectful worry is! Let the attitude of your life be a continual willingness to “go out” in dependence upon God, and your life will have a sacred and inexpressible charm about it that is very satisfying to Jesus. You must learn to “go out” through your convictions, creeds, or experiences, until you come to the point in your faith where there is nothing between yourself and God.
Jesus this is my prayer. Amen.
