‘No News is Good News’

Well, today was a fairly uneventful day…that’s a good thing. We are hoping and praying for a very similar day again tomorrow. This then leads into our upcoming prayer and concern. As Monday (or Tuesday) commence, Beckett with be slowly weaned from the Ecmo machine. We have been warned in advance that this may be a very trying and challenging time as they test and study Beckett’s vitality and independence. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned or nervous…but he’s doing so well, and we are greatly optimistic and hopeful for his full recovery. As always, we are soooo crazy thankful for the prayers and support. You all are soo amazing! Go Beckett! β€” with Leah ‘Whiteley’ Rupp at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.

Encouraging UPDATE:

Beckett had another “good” day. He is still progressing. The doctors and nurses this morning (who seem to typically not be shy when difficult news needs to be given) only had positives things to say today. At one point I had to ask, “Do you have any bad news?!”. They laughed and said, “I understand what you are saying…but no, not really”. Later in the day, he did have a few seizures, but that is being closely monitored and treated.

Though there is not much to report in this update, I figured that you all deserve some sort of update with how intentional and diligent your prayers and concerns have been. We feel quite encouraged and so appreciative of all the support. But please…PLEASE keep praying for my son. He still needs it desperately, but we are believing he WILL and IS going to pull through this. He has a wonderful and bright future ahead of him…and I cannot wait for y’all to meet him someday! He’s a freakin’ stud! πŸ˜‰ β€” with Leah ‘Whiteley’ Rupp at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.

Another UPDATE:

First off, I hate to enable the ‘roller-coaster’ of emotions, but I do have encouraging news. By no means are we out of the woods yet, but Beckett did have a ‘good’ day today. He does have a long road ahead of him, but there are many key components that are beginning to rebound. The next hurdle is the monitoring of the potential damage to his brain from last night. We will know more in the morning, and even more within the next 24-48 hours. As always, thank you for all your prayers and support, it has been extremely humbling and encouraging. Update on Beckett:

My lil man has what’s called Hypo Plastic Left Heart Syndrome (something you can just have at postpartum – 1 out of 1000). The left side of his heart is too small to pump the blood to his body. He will be having surgery on Wednesday to put in a shunt to redirect the blood flow to where it needs to go. He will need another surgery when he is about 4-6 months and then another one when he is about two years old. This first surgery is going to be the hardest and the most risky (about 70% survival) and then the healing period between the first and second surgeries is going to be very difficult as well and closely monitored. Thank you all so much for your prayers and support as this has certainly been a very challenging time for us. β€” with Leah ‘Whiteley’ Rupp.
